Program Notes:

Tango Macabre is a minor tango piece written for concert band with younger players in mind, think grade 2 or 2 1⁄2. The title comes from the piece Concerto Macabre, a concerto for piano and orchestra by the famous American composer Bernard Herrmann, which was written for the 1945 film, Hangover Square. Herrmann’s concerto lasts over 10 minutes and is truly a wild ride, this tango is also a wild ride, however, it should only take about 4 1⁄2 minutes to complete and is accessible to players who are only a few years into their playing.
