Program Notes:

L O S T is a work for band that is effectively void of all common practices
that are usually employed in the stereotypical modern composition. The lack of melody, consonant harmonies and steady time make it an uncomfortable piece to play and listen to. I had been wanting to write a piece like this for a while – that has these qualities, and a great way to connect these techniques to a real-life idea is the fear of being lost in space. To be quite honest, it is one of the scariest things to me – the idea that one could be lost in a void in which we have nothing to do but wait for our demise. This music acts as the soundtrack to a lone astronaut floating off into the observable universe, with nothing to do but wait for death to take over, or for potentially worse… the continued suffering of someone with no hope.
