Program Notes:
Among the many things I am often inspired by, outer space is just one of the
things that I cannot help but keep coming back to for inspiration. It has been the inspiration for many of my pieces, Oddities for Brass Quintet comes to mind at first. The mysteriousness of space, paired with the sinking feeling of loneliness I get when I see some of these deep space images are some of the reasons why I get so much inspiration from it, because it is so terrifying. It is so large that the human mind can barely comprehend it; so, one of the ways to make sense of that is through music. Thus, An Outer Space Symphony was born, my attempt at comprehending space was to make music for such a weird group of instruments using weird techniques, on the many things that happen in space. Many concepts are touched on in this piece, Shooting Stars, Black Holes etc. and each one delivers a different mood and showcases different sounds from these unique instruments. It
is sure to be a highlight of any program that has the ability to get the players
together to play this odd little piece.
