for Clarinet Quartet

Program Notes:

b l u r is essentially a collection of tone clusters and other dissonances meant to provide an overall abstract experience to depict the feeling of having blurred memory or seeing blurred images. The one moment of overall “consonance,” in terms of harmony appears toward the latter half of the work, and while it is consonant harmonically, the four clarinets are off placed rhythmically to provide a different sort of “blur”. It is my hope through this piece that the audience can close their eyes, and let the music take them through a journey of such blurred images and thoughts.
