Program Notes:
Dream Scenes: Part I, is my first piece for Symphonic Orchestra and is inspired by two recurring dreams that I was having around the time of writing it in June of 2022. The first movement (dream) is titled… “an unidentified plane of existence”. This movement depicts a dream in which I
was essentially placed in an unidentifiable void in which there was nothing to do, no direction. Some may see it as a nightmare, but it did not scare me and instead, simply made me question what it means to exist and what it means to occupy a space with ones body. The second movement (dream) is titled… “a ship sailing on an open desert at the speed of light”. Upon hearing the title, an immediate question is posed… “how is a ship sailing on the desert?” well, its dream logic I presume. This dream was more aggressive and “in your face” than the previous, and revolved around (you guessed it) being on the top deck of a massive ship sailing at light speed over a desert that seemingly
had the same physics as the ocean normally would. In this dream I saw the ship racing to get to the horizon that would always be there, and behind, as the ship went on, the desert it was leaving behind would fade and disappear.
Dreams are a very personal thing, and are one of the very complex parts of life that I believe are truly impossible to grasp. It is through art that we can try to make sense of our dreams, and music is an excellent tool to use to try and understand our dreams, and ourselves more… I hope that you
enjoy… Dream Scenes Part I.
