Program Notes:
Echo is a piece for Saxophone Quartet that was written to explore some of
the more interesting intervals in music, particularly as noted in this piece, the
augmented fourth, augmented fifth and the minor third. These intervals have a certain tinge to them that evoke a sort of odd sense in the listener, and the player who plays them. The music is also highly repetitive in its stating of themes, in some sense echoing each previous statement, going from long and linear, to more angular and short ideas.
