Program Notes:

Written as a short work for brass and percussion, Glacial Fanfare was inspired by the arctic landscape, and more particularly, glaciers and their overall presence. The music presents itself in such a way that showcases both amazement and awe at these massive snowy, icy clumps of land, and also a sort of impending sense of destruction through the percussive hits in the timpani, and bass drum. There is music of a linear, more quiet quality, as well as
more common fanfare figures that announce themselves boldly, in the background, through the percussion, we hear sheets and chunks of ice and snow break off from the mass in very harsh and aggressive hits. Much of the harmony is clustered and somewhat cloudy, to this point, the sense of mysticism and loneliness that the arctic is well known for is showcased, and much of the emotional content of the work comes through in these harmonies.
