LAST HOUR OF THOUGHT

Program Notes:

I find that some of my most creative moments compositionally, and really just in general happen late at night. While I do not see myself as a night owl per se; I am often asleep by 2 a.m., the ideas seem to start flowing in that time between one calendar day and the next, around 11 p.m. to maybe 1 a.m. Why does this happen? – Who knows! That is the beauty of the creative process, right? And as long as it does not impact my sleep, I am more than fine with the muse visiting me at these hours, and dealing with creativity right then and there. This piece acts a meditation on this time of day for me. Most of the music was written between these hours; all of the first movement, most of the second movement, most of the third movement, and all of the last movement in particular. One may say “well if it takes place from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m., then shouldn’t it be, titled, Last Two Hours Of Dream?” – the simple fact is that does not sound as good as a title : )

Nonetheless, this work is very personal to me, as I feel as though these four movements sum up my writing style very well, and all come from a very genuine place inside my creative conscious, and I hope that in some way, they may resonate with you, and at the very least, pique your ear’s interest whilst you listen to this work.
