Program Notes:
Mechanism is one of my first pieces where I tried to intentionally
limit myself in terms of instrumentation. This started as a work for full Concert Band, however, as the ideas started to unfold to me, I felt as though I should slim down the instrumentation, and try to make due with a Chamber Wind Ensemble instead, and here we are with the finished version of Mechanism. This piece attempts to make music out of industrialism. The steady pulse of a clockwork machine is heard in the first section of the work, and the second sections contains music to accompany the crawling of an old worn-out machine, until coming back to the driving pulse from before for the finale.
