Program Notes:
I must admit, often when writing, I do not start with a title and then write the
music… I do not think that many write that way. However, this piece, Shaken, Not Stirred, is the exception as of the time being. The title, a quote commonly attributed to Bond, James Bond, sounded like the perfect title for a wind ensemble piece to me, just perfect. So, I began writing. The music itself is not meant to pay homage to the music of James Bond, except for some melodic underlings here and there, but is instead supposed to be a sort of weird fusion of jazz and contemporary concert band music. There are plenty, and I mean plenty, of solos throughout for just about every instrument, and the inclusion of the Drum Set part automatically hoists its uniqueness up a few notches. So, with that being said, make yourself a Martini and partake in this musical cocktail of my own creation.
