Program Notes:
Storm Chaser is effectively a short programmatic work for younger concert bands meant to depict the formation, pursuit, and aftermath of a massive storm. The work starts in a fog of clustered harmonies, meant to depict the slow formation of a storm- with clouds and darkness taking over the sky above. Once the storm sets in, the pursuit begins, more lively and involved than the beginning, however just as harmonically clustered and dissonant. We then visit the eye of the storm, with chaotic and involved group improvisation and intense percussion, this is until we finally give way to the aftermath. It is in the aftermath that a sense of calm is felt now that the storm is over, but through the snapping of twigs, and the sound of distant thunder, the anxiety of the next possible storm lingers in the air . . .
