Program Notes:
To The Unknown is a tribute to the unknown and what it can do for us as
creative individuals in a society that often tries to undermine such delving into the unknown. It starts somewhat quietly, showing humble beginnings filled with almost lush harmonies, until leading into more dissonant and harsh harmonies with a louder and more isolated approach. The latter half of the piece is a grand statement that is almost regal in nature. We return to more quiet music with a hint of dissonance, until leading to the final grand moment of the piece, recalling the humble beginnings, the dissonance of the unknown, and finally, the resolution and boldness of success. It is through this piece I give my appreciation to the unknown itself, and to those of us who choose to embrace the unknown and accept that it is one of the only ways that we will truly move forward with our projects and find success of our own.
